Climbing Kilimanjaro may be overwhelming but one should not get confused on what to bring along for the trekking. The major concern is not only packing but acquiring the right and necessary items.

The following list will guide you in preparing the right trekking gear.

1. Get The Right Clothing

Technical Clothing

  • Top and Bottom Base Layer
  • 3-4 Short Sleeve
  • 2 Waterproof pants
  • 1-2 Long Sleeve Trekking Shirts
  • 2 Pairs of hiking pants
  • 1 Fleece Jacket
  • 2 Sports Bra(for women)
  • 1 Insulated Winter Jacket
  • 4-5 Pairs of Underwear
  • 1 Hard Shell Jacket
  • Lightweight Raingear


  • 1 Pair of hiking boots
  • 2 pairs synthetic warm weather trekking socks
  • Waterproof breathable Gaiters for covering your shoes
  • 4 pairs heavier synthetic or wool blend socks


  • Water/Windproof mittens for extreme low temperatures
  • Lightweight gloves

2.Acquire The Right Equipments

  • 1 Sleeping bag
  • 1 Duffel bag
  • A pair of trekking poles
  • 1 Day pack
  • 1 Headlamp with extra batteries

3. Accesories

  • Sunglasses
  • Dry bag
  • Backpack cover
  • Water bottle
  • Balaclava
  • Hydrator
  • Pee Bottle

4. Toiletries

  • I Roll of toilet paper
  • Baby wipes
  • Shampoo/Air conditioner
  • Toothbrush and toothpaste

5. Electronic devices

  • Digital camera
  • Extra batteries

6. Others

  • Passport and Visa
  • Insurance documents
  • Immunization papers
  • Small lock for the duffel bag
