The most common question from first-time visitors isn't which park to choose but how many days to plan. Here is an honest answer based on what each length allows.
Enough for a focused northern trip, usually Tarangire or Lake Manyara, the Ngorongoro Crater and a short time in the Serengeti. Game viewing is excellent, but the pace is tighter, with little room for a slow day or a weather delay.
This is the trip we plan most often. A week covers Tarangire, Ngorongoro and three or four nights in different parts of the Serengeti without rushing. It also gives you enough flexibility to follow the migration, being in the right area on the right days.
With ten days or more, your safari can grow into a bigger Tanzania journey. You might add a quiet southern park such as Ruaha or Nyerere, finish with a few days on Zanzibar or simply slow down, with shorter drives and more time to sit and watch.
For a first Tanzania trip, choose seven days if you can. It is the shortest trip that doesn't feel squeezed, which is why it is the one we plan most.
