Most visitors need a visa. Many nationalities can apply online in advance through Tanzania's official e-Visa website, and some can also get one on arrival at the airport. Because the rules change from time to time, check the current requirements for your passport before you fly. We will guide you through it once you book.

Only if you are arriving from, or spending more than 12 hours in transit in, a country where yellow fever is present, such as much of sub-Saharan Africa and parts of South America. Travelers flying directly from the US, UK, Canada, Australia or most of Europe do not need it, although the WHO still recommends it. Read our yellow fever guide for details.

Tanzania is a popular, well-established safari destination and is generally safe for visitors who take normal precautions. We always recommend travel insurance and a look at your government's latest travel advice before you go. On safari, your experienced driver-guide is with you throughout.

No honest operator can promise sightings, because these are wild animals, not a zoo. However, parks such as the Serengeti and the Ngorongoro Crater have some of Africa's richest wildlife, and a trip that covers several parks over a few days gives you a very good chance of seeing all five.

The price depends mostly on how long you travel, how many people are in your group and the level of accommodation. We usually work with mid-range and luxury lodges, and can offer budget camping on request. Pack clothes in neutral colors such as khaki, olive or beige, and avoid bright colors, white and black, which can attract insects or stand out to animals. Bring a warm layer for chilly early drives, a hat, sunscreen, binoculars and a good camera. Kilimanjaro needs its own cold-weather kit list, which we send once your climb is booked.

Tipping is expected in Tanzania's tourism industry, although it is never compulsory. Tips make up an important part of the income of guides, camp staff and Kilimanjaro porters. Once your trip is confirmed, we will send you up-to-date guidelines.
