Giant baobabs and Tanzania's great elephant herds
Tarangire National Park is famous for its huge baobab trees and some of the biggest elephant herds in Tanzania. In the dry season, herds of several hundred are common, as animals gather along the Tarangire River, one of the few year-round water sources in the area.
The park covers about 2,850 square kilometers and gets fewer visitors than the Serengeti or Ngorongoro, yet game viewing is consistently excellent. It is an ideal first stop on a northern safari and a great choice when time is short.
