Tarangire is elephant country. Some of the biggest herds in Tanzania gather along the Tarangire River, particularly in the dry season when water elsewhere dries up.

Ancient baobab trees give the park a look all of its own, quite different from the open Serengeti plains. Alongside the elephants you can expect giraffe, zebra and plenty of birds on your day of game drives.

Day 1

ARUSHA TO TARANGIRE NATIONAL PARK

We pick you up from your Arusha hotel for the drive of 2-3 hours to Tarangire National Park. Ernest Hemingway once hunted in this area, but today cameras have replaced rifles. Tarangire has the highest density of elephants in northern Tanzania, with herds that can number up to 300 animals, seen here all year round. The Tarangire River never dries up, so between July and October wildlife from the surrounding country gathers along its banks, an unforgettable sight. After a full day of game drives we drive you back to Arusha.
