Overview
This nine-day safari puts the Great Migration at its centre, with three full days following the herds across the Serengeti. It also includes the Ngorongoro Crater, packed with wildlife inside its volcanic walls, and Lake Manyara, famous for lions that rest in the trees.
With nine days you have time to enjoy each park properly instead of rushing from one to the next, and the price is good value for a trip of this length.

Day by Day (9 days)
ARRIVAL AT MOIVARO COFFEE LODGE
Arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) at any time, where an Abakombe Tours driver is waiting to take you to Moivaro Coffee Lodge in Arusha. Set among coffee plantations, it is a relaxing place to rest before the safari begins.

GAME DRIVE IN LAKE MANYARA NATIONAL PARK
After breakfast you drive to the green, leafy Lake Manyara National Park for your first game drive, with lunch at the park's picnic site around 1 pm.

THROUGH NGORONGORO TO THE SERENGETI
After breakfast you drive through the Ngorongoro Conservation Area to the Serengeti plains, game viewing on the way. After a picnic lunch you explore the central Serengeti around Seronera or head in the direction of the migration.

FULL DAY IN THE SERENGETI
Depending on the season and where the herds are, you can expect wildebeest, lion, elephant, giraffe, zebra, monkeys, baboons, hippo, rhino and antelope, along with a huge variety of birds.

FOLLOWING THE HERDS IN THE SOUTH-WEST SERENGETI
With a packed lunch on board, you spend the day following the migration, which can stretch in a column of around 40 km heading south-west. You stop for lunch around midday, then continue tracking the herds. About 1.3 million wildebeest, 250,000 gazelle and 200,000 zebra have been counted sharing these short-grass plains.

SERENGETI TO NGORONGORO VIA OLDUVAI GORGE
After an early game drive in the Serengeti, you set off for Ngorongoro with a picnic lunch on the way. You stop at Olduvai Gorge, where Louis and Mary Leakey uncovered some of the earliest known remains of human ancestors.

NGORONGORO CRATER FLOOR
Today you drop more than 600 m to the floor of the Ngorongoro Crater. You explore the forest patches home to monkeys and elephants, the lake where flamingos often gather and the open grassland where lions hunt. Lunch is a picnic inside the crater.

TRANSFER TO KIA LODGE
Today you drive to KIA Lodge near the airport, where you stay in one of 40 bungalows set in lovely gardens. The open-air bar looks out towards Kilimanjaro. Spend the afternoon by the pool or relaxing on your veranda. A late buffet dinner is available for guests arriving late.

DEPARTURE
A private transfer takes you to Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) for your flight home.
