Overview

This seven-day safari is shaped around you. The cost and route depend on your group size and which parks matter most to you, so we build the plan from your wishes instead of offering one fixed itinerary. You stay in tented camps throughout, visiting parks on the northern circuit chosen for your interests and the season.

The sample route here covers Lake Manyara, the Ngorongoro Crater, two days in the Serengeti, a Maasai village and Tarangire. Tell us your budget, group size and must-sees, and we will design a route that fits.

Think of this itinerary as a starting point. Share your dates and priorities with us, and after more than 13 years of planning Tanzania trips, we will shape the route, pace and accommodation around you.

Day 1

ARUSHA TO LAKE MANYARA NATIONAL PARK

From your Arusha lodge you drive to Lake Manyara National Park, a compact park of lake, groundwater forest, grassland, hot springs and woodland beneath the Rift Valley wall. More than 350 bird species live here, and it is known for its tree-climbing lions. Lunch is a picnic in the park.
Overnight at Nsya Lodge, all meals included.

Day 2

NGORONGORO CRATER

After an early start you head into the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, where Maasai herders graze their cattle alongside wildlife. After a stop at the gate, you drive along the crater rim with views of the herds below, then descend to the floor, a natural sanctuary where lion, elephant, buffalo, rhino and sometimes leopard can be seen. Giraffe are absent because the walls are too steep for them.
Overnight at a lodge in the Ngorongoro area, all meals included.

Accommodation:
Day 3

OLDUVAI GORGE AND INTO THE SERENGETI

You stop at Olduvai Gorge, the Cradle of Mankind, where remains of early humans about two million years old were uncovered, then continue into the Serengeti, the endless plains, covering around 14,750 sq km and rich in wildlife.
Overnight at Serengeti Acacia Tented Lodge, all meals included.

Accommodation:
Day 4

FULL DAY IN THE SERENGETI

A full day of game drives across the Serengeti. You can add an optional hot-air balloon flight at extra cost. Millions of animals migrate here each year between the Serengeti and Kenya's Masai Mara, and even outside the migration the plains are home to herds of wildebeest, zebra and gazelle, elephant, giraffe and buffalo, and predators such as lion, leopard, cheetah, hyena and jackal.
Overnight at Serengeti Acacia Tented Lodge, all meals included.

Accommodation:
Day 5

MAASAI VILLAGE AND ON TO TARANGIRE

On the way from the Serengeti towards Tarangire you visit a Maasai homestead, where your local guide explains how the Maasai live within the conservation area. You then continue to Tarangire.
Overnight at Tarangire Roika Tented Lodge, all meals included.

Accommodation:
Day 6

GAME DRIVE IN TARANGIRE NATIONAL PARK

After breakfast you spend the day in Tarangire National Park, one of Africa's lesser-known treasures and ideal for anyone who loves wild, quiet places. Tonight you stay inside the park.
Overnight at Tarangire Safari Lodge, all meals included.

Accommodation:
Day 7

SUNRISE GAME DRIVE AND DEPARTURE

You head out at 6 am for the best viewing hours, returning to the lodge at about 8:30 am for breakfast and check-out. You then continue game viewing on your way out of the park, timed around your flight, before we drop you in Arusha or at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO).

Departure day — no accommodation booked for tonight.
