Chimpanzee Trekking

A guided hike through Gombe Stream's steep, forested valleys brings you close to habituated chimpanzee groups, the same communities Jane Goodall began studying in 1960. It is more demanding than a game drive, with narrow paths and real climbs.

Gombe lies on the shore of Lake Tanganyika in the far west, so getting there usually means a domestic flight and a boat ride. It fits best into trips that already include western Tanzania rather than as an add-on to a Serengeti safari.
