Planning a Trip Around AFCON 2027? Here's How to Combine Football and a Tanzania Safari

Published September 17, 2026

If you've already got tickets to AFCON 2027 matches in Tanzania, the hard part is done — the football side of the trip is fixed. What's still up to you is everything around it, and with a month-long tournament running from 19 June to 17 July 2027 across Dar es Salaam, Arusha and Zanzibar, there's real room to turn a football trip into a proper Tanzania holiday.

Start from your match dates, not the other way round

The trips that work best start with the fixed points — your match city and dates — and build outward. Once you know that, the safari side is just a question of how many spare days you have and which direction you're flying in from.

A few realistic shapes this can take

  • Short add-on: 2–3 nights in the Ngorongoro or Tarangire area either side of an Arusha match — enough for two or three good game drives without needing a long block of free time.
  • Full circuit: a week-plus Serengeti–Ngorongoro–Tarangire safari built around your match dates, for fans who are making Tanzania the main trip and the football a highlight within it.
  • Split trip: safari on the mainland, then a short flight to Zanzibar for beach days and any matches there — the two host regions connect easily.

What to book first

Flights and match tickets first, obviously. After that: accommodation, before the tournament month fills it up, since a three-country AFCON is going to pull more visitors into Tanzania than a normal June or July. The safari itself is the most flexible piece — it's the one we can build around whatever's already locked in.

Send us your match city and dates and we'll put together a safari that fits around them, not the other way round.
