How Much Does a Tanzania Safari Cost?

Published July 30, 2026

The quick answer

Most Tanzania safaris cost between $250 and $1,500+ per person per day. That range is wide because two travelers visiting the same parks can pay very different amounts depending on their vehicle, accommodation and travel season. Here is how it breaks down.

Budget safaris: about $250-$400 a day

At this level you usually share a 4x4 with other travelers on a set route, sleep at public campsites and eat simple meals cooked by your crew. It is a real, memorable way to see the Serengeti and the Ngorongoro Crater without luxury prices, and many of our budget trips are built this way.

Mid-range safaris: about $350-$800 a day

This is where most of our guests choose to travel. You get your own private vehicle and guide, comfortable lodges or tented camps with private bathrooms, and all meals. The biggest step up from budget is the private vehicle: your safari follows your schedule, not a group timetable.

Luxury safaris: $800-$1,500+ a day

Luxury trips add high-end lodges and camps, sometimes with butlers, private plunge pools or flights between parks instead of long drives. A few top camps in prime Serengeti locations charge over $1,000 per person per night on their own, before guiding and park fees.

What the daily price covers

A good operator quotes an all-inclusive daily rate: vehicle, driver-guide, accommodation, meals and national park and conservation fees. Park fees are a big part of the total, usually around $50 to $85 per person per day depending on the park, and they go to conservation and the government, not the operator.

Usually not included: international flights, visas, travel insurance, tips for your guide and camp staff, and alcoholic drinks.

The biggest price factor: private or shared

What changes the price most is not the lodge but whether you share a vehicle on a group departure or travel privately. Private travel costs more per day, but you can stay longer at a sighting, change plans and start early or late as you like.

The season counts too

In the green season, roughly April and May, many lodges lower their rates. You accept some rain in return for real savings and quieter, greener parks.

Our advice after 13+ years

Don't choose a safari on price alone. The very cheapest trips can feel rough for travelers who are not backpackers. Tell us your budget and what matters most, whether that is more days in the Serengeti, a private vehicle or the best value for a first safari, and we will plan around it.
