A practical packing list that goes beyond khaki
Beyond the usual advice about neutral colors, here is a more complete packing list for a Tanzania safari.
Choose neutral shades like khaki, olive and beige, and avoid bright colors, white and black, which attract insects or stand out. Pack a warm layer, because early game drives can be surprisingly cold, especially in an open vehicle.
Bring a wide-brimmed hat, high-factor sunscreen and sunglasses. The equatorial sun is stronger than most visitors expect, even on cloudy days.
Binoculars are essential, as many great sightings are distant. Bring a camera or phone with a good zoom, plus spare batteries or a power bank, since charging varies between camps.
A small first-aid kit with your personal medicines, a refillable water bottle and a headlamp, because camp paths can be dark at night.
You will need a separate cold-weather kit list for the mountain. We send it once your climb is booked.
Most camps offer laundry, so you need fewer clothes than you think, and small planes have strict luggage limits.
