How Many Days To Climb Kilimanjaro
Kilimanjaro itineraries generally run from 5 to 9 days, and duration is the single biggest factor in your actual chance of reaching the summit — more days means more time to acclimatize to the altitude (see our altitude sickness guide for why that matters so much).
5–6 days, such as the Marangu route, are shorter and less expensive, but come with a meaningfully lower summit success rate due to less acclimatization time.
7 days, such as the Machame route, are a common middle ground, giving an extra acclimatization day compared to the shorter version of the same route.
8–9 days, such as the Lemosho route, are the longest options, generally offering the best acclimatization and the highest summit success rates of any standard route.
We generally recommend choosing the longest itinerary your schedule and budget allow — see how this affects pricing, or view our real route options and durations on the Kilimanjaro packages page.
