8 Days Lemosho Route

8 Days 📍Mount Kilimanjaro 👤1-7 people 💰From $2,300 USD*

Overview

For climbers who want the best realistic chance of reaching Uhuru Peak, the 8-day Lemosho route is our longest, most gradual itinerary — and the extra day compared to our 7-day Lemosho option makes a genuine difference to how your body handles the altitude.

The route begins on Kilimanjaro's western flank, working through rainforest, heath and moorland before converging with the Machame route around day three. From there, the extended timeline gives you more nights at progressively higher camps, spreading the altitude gain across more days rather than compressing it — precisely the acclimatization pattern that correlates most strongly with reaching the summit.

Accommodation is tented throughout, with all camping equipment included. We typically schedule Lemosho departures to avoid the heaviest rainy season months (November, and April through June), when trail conditions on this longer, more exposed route are at their most difficult.

If summit success matters more to you than trip length, this is genuinely our top recommendation — see our altitude sickness guide for why the extra days matter so much, or contact us to book your 8-day Lemosho climb.

Like every itinerary Abakombe Tours and Safaris runs, this one is a starting point rather than a fixed package — tell us your dates and what matters most to you, and we'll adjust the route, pace and accommodation level to fit.

Arriving at Lava Tower, you'll take a rest to acclimatize to the higher altitude before descending to Barranco Camp. This method of climbing high but sleeping low allows your body to adapt to varying altitudes and assess your reaction to altitude changes. The scenery will transform once more, and soon you'll be surrounded by giant senecios and smaller lobelias. After 6 to 7 hours, you'll reach the beautiful and green Barranco Camp, offering magnificent views of the surrounding snow-capped mountains. Following dinner, you'll settle in for the night. After maneuvering around the Kissing Rock, you'll traverse the mountain ridge and proceed through the Karanga Valley. You'll also pass the last water source before reaching Karanga Camp. Following a well-earned meal, it's time for some rest. Meals included: Breakfast; Lunch; Dinner.
