A plain walk-through of your first days on safari
If you have never been on safari, here is an honest picture of what your days will look like.
Most days start early, often before sunrise, with a morning game drive when animals are most active. You rest at camp during the hottest hours, then head out again in the late afternoon for the golden evening light.
You spend hours in the vehicle with your driver-guide, moving slowly and stopping whenever something interesting appears. It is calmer than many people expect, with patient searching and real, unscripted encounters rather than nonstop action.
Some drives are quiet, and that is normal, because wild animals do not follow a timetable. A good guide and the right park improve your chances, but nothing is certain.
A vehicle safari is not physically demanding: mostly sitting, with early starts. Walking safaris and Kilimanjaro are different.
Don't try to fit too much into your first trip. Fewer parks with more time in each will give you a far better experience.
