Serengeti Safari Etiquette: Dos and Don'ts
A real, practical guide from Abakombe Tours and Safaris
A few simple habits make a real difference to both your experience and the wildlife's wellbeing. Never ask your guide to approach an animal closer than park regulations allow, even if it's specifically for a better photograph — these rules exist for good reason, and a good guide will (rightly) decline regardless of how the request is phrased.
Keeping your voice low during sightings matters more than it might seem. Sound travels remarkably far across open plains, and unnecessary noise can disturb wildlife or spoil the sighting for other vehicles nearby, even from a genuine distance.
Tipping guides and camp staff is customary throughout Tanzania, and it's worth asking your operator for typical per-day guidance before you travel rather than guessing on the day — see our tipping guide for specific amounts.
