Day 1

OLDUVAI GORGE AND NGORONGORO HIGHLANDS

Your driver-guide picks you up from your hotel at the start of the day. Olduvai Gorge is known as the Cradle of Mankind, where Louis and Mary Leakey found the fossils of early humans that changed our understanding of human origins. You visit the small museum and a guide leads you along the gorge to see the layers of rock where the discoveries were made. You also visit a Maasai boma in the Ngorongoro highlands to learn about their traditions, and enjoy views over the crater rim, with a picnic lunch. The day is an excellent combination of history and culture. In the late afternoon you return to your hotel in Arusha or Moshi, tired and happy after a full day.
