Typical prices for budget, mid-range and luxury trips
The cost of a Uganda safari depends mostly on whether it includes gorilla trekking, how long you stay and the standard of lodges. The figures below are typical prices per person for two people sharing, and they change with the season and the exchange rate.
The gorilla permit costs about 800 US dollars per person for foreign non-residents, set by the Uganda Wildlife Authority. A standard chimpanzee permit costs about 250 US dollars. Permits must be booked well ahead, especially from June to September and in December.
A three-day budget gorilla trek from Kampala costs about 1,850 US dollars per person, including the permit. A five-day trip with gorillas and chimpanzees costs about 3,500 US dollars. A nine-day luxury route across the main western parks starts around 6,000 US dollars.
Transport, a driver-guide, park entry fees, accommodation and meals are normally included. International flights, visas, tips, drinks and travel insurance are usually extra. Check whether permits are included before comparing prices.
Travel in the low season from March to May and in November, choose a shared departure, combine regions to avoid separate transfers and book permits early. Our team can quote any of these options.
