Tanzania Safari in July: Weather, Wildlife and Crowds
What to expect on a Tanzania safari in July
July is peak migration season in the classic sense — this is typically when the Mara River crossings begin, as the herds push north from the Serengeti toward Kenya's Maasai Mara. It's one of the most in-demand months of the year for exactly this reason.
Mornings turn cooler and drier, which suits an early game drive well, though it's worth packing a proper layer for the start of the day even though Tanzania's daytime heat is unaffected. The bigger practical consideration is booking: July is one of the busiest months across the entire Northern Circuit, and camps near the main crossing points fill up well in advance of the month itself.
If a Mara River crossing is specifically what you're after, July marks the start of that window — but it's not a month to leave planning until the last minute.
