Serengeti Safari Packing List for Photographers

Photography-specific packing has a few priorities that differ from a general safari packing list. A genuinely dust-proof camera bag is essential, not optional — Serengeti roads generate significant fine dust during the dry season, and gear that isn't properly protected will show it within days. Spare batteries and memory cards matter more than an extra lens for most itineraries, largely because charging time in camp is limited and you don't want a dead battery or full card to cost you a once-in-a-trip sighting. If you're only bringing backup gear for one category, make it power and storage rather than optics. A lens cloth and blower brush should live in an easily accessible pocket, not buried in checked luggage — dust management is a daily habit on safari, not a once-a-trip cleaning session.
